Composition for dummies part two: The Dead Center Focal Point!**
I have found that storyboards that use a nice mixture of the “Rule of Thirds” and “Dead Center” focal points are the most visually pleasing. Remember, SHOT VARIETY is good.

From what I understand, how much you use center focal point depends on what you’re doing.
For instance, it’s generally frowned upon when doing a stand-alone piece of art, because we automatically look to the center. The trick to making a good composition in a piece of art is to make it so you keep viewers’ eyes exploring around your work, rather than glancing at it and moving on. If you want to have your composition focused in the center, there better be a good reason for it.
On the other hand, when it comes to storyboarding, center focal point is not so frowned upon. It’s a good way to guide someone’s focus onto something or someone, but often times it is not the best sort of shot to guide the audience into feeling a certain way about a scene. So it’s a good idea to have a mix of different types of focal points since they all have their merits when stringed together.
